SunTap Technologies launches Solar Inspections - London, ON - SunTap Technologies Inc. announced today the launching of its “Home Buyer Solar Satisfaction” inspection program in London and the surrounding area. The inspection program is offered to Realtors, Home Inspectors, Insurance Companies, and potential home buyers. It offers the similar benefits to home buyers as a standard home inspection; however, the specialized inspection of the solar equipment includes an evaluation of its efficiency, the detection of possible defects, and/or service requirements. Also included in the inspection is an evaluation as to what the present worth, or “value”, of the solar system is. Since the launching of the ecoENERGY retrofit program, and the Green Energy Act (GEA), there are now more homes than ever in Ontario that have solar equipment either to heat domestic hot water, heat pool water, or generate electricity (photovoltaic system, or PV). As part of the microFIT program, the GEA and Ontario Power Authority (OPA) allow the transfer of an existing PV solar system’s contract to the new homeowner in the event of a sale of a residence that has a PV solar system and existing contract in place with the OPA. For solar thermal systems installed on homes there are not any contracts with the OPA, but there could possibly be an agreement in place if the equipment is leased or on a “rent-to-own” program. For potential home buyers, there can be a significant amount of money at stake in a solar investment. A PV system’s original installed cost can range in price from $15,000 to $75,000 for a 1.5 kW to 10 kW system, while solar thermal systems generally range from $5,000 to $20,000. The solar inspection provides the potential home buyer with the assurance that the solar equipment is performing properly, and that any increase in the asking price for the house (for the solar equipment) is justified.
